week 25 : what have I been learning about this week? Plus the trials and tribulations of a Personal Trainer/Entrepreneur in training
Right let me update you on what has been going on in Abi’s world…week 25…
I am currently in London so this weeks update will only be what I have learnt and I will do a proper one when I can (probably on the train home later on today!!) It has been lovely to get away however I can feel myself getting a bit anxious at the amount of work which I will have to do on my return. It is less than 4 weeks until i go away and the list of things to do is growing by the hour!
2nd: There is a river in Peru where the temperature of the water reaches boiling point and will boil alive anything which falls in!
3rd: On average 7 Postmen are bitten by a dog every day!
4th: The Spanish Paralympic basketball team from 2000 had to hand back their medals because 10 of them didn’t have a disability.
5th: A formula 1 car changes gear 50 times quicker than a human eye can blink.
6th: Google receives 54,000 queries a second which equates to 90 billion per month.
7th: It costs the city of London £3.8million to clean up litter from the square mile.
8th: London Pride takes place every year on the Saturday closest to the anniversary of the Stonewall riots of 1969.

Try Foods other than Pad Thai! There is much more to Thailand than their famous exported noodle dish, aim to sample as many different dishes as you can and find your favourite!
Have a Banana Nutella pancake. Don’t even think about how many calories it might contain; just enjoy every bite.
You must try the local thai whisky ‘Sansom’ at least once. It might taste a bit like paint stripper but I promise it will lead to a good night.
Eat where you see Thai people eating. Some of the best food you will find is from the street stalls or the small restaurants with plastic chairs and tablecloths.
A ping pong show isn’t what you imagine a ping pong show to be.
It is fun to barter whilst out shopping, but have a price in mind which you are willing to pay for an item. That 20 baht which you are arguing over equates to about 40p.
Take trips and see everything which this amazing country has to offer. But realise that they aren’t the best at time keeping, don’t get flustered and mad, you’re wasting energy; its Thai time and you will get there in due course.
Do not insult the Royal Family.
Realise that you take your life in your hands every time you get in a taxi, jump in a ‘tuktuk’, on the back of a moped or attempt to cross the road.
Smile. It isn’t called the land of smiles for nothing. One smile will get you a long way.

Although I don’t stick rigidly to my workout and eating regime whilst I am away on holiday, I do enjoy to keep active whilst still enjoying some down time and of course sampling all the local delicacies. It is important to allow your body and mind to have a break and recharge. But I also love experiencing new activities or trying out new gyms which i may stumble upon. I know that in two of the areas of Thailand which we are visiting this time there are two amazing gyms, in fact probably two of the most well equipped facilities I have trained in, and I can’t wait to get back there and have a workout.
Whilst away, I have done yoga looking out to sea, tried out thai boxing, gone swimming and snorkelling with tropical fish, hiked up to some incredible viewpoints, done sprints on the beach as the sun rises; oh and trained shoulders next to Arnold Schwarzenegger…no big!! Not your typical day to day gym workouts like back home. Keeping fit and healthy is just a part of my life now and I can’t imagine not wanting to be active; even when on holiday.
So how have I got on this first week into my ‘mini-lean-down’?
I have just recorded my weight and taken my body measurements so will address these first. Like I said in the previous blog post I do weigh myself everyday around the same time each morning and note it down on a spreadsheet, it may seem a little over the top for some people but this way I can see fluctuations day to day but more importantly I can see the general trend over time rather than getting freaked out if one morning my weight jumps up a few lbs. If this is the case, there is normally a reason for it, I may have eaten late the night before, had a bad nights sleep or sodium levels were inconsistent. By tracking each day I then take a weekly average and make any adjustments accordingly. This week my average weight is down 0.3%, nothing major but still a step in the right direction. Overall body measurements are down, again not by very much, but I know I don’t have a lot to lose, I just want to tighten up in certain areas. Waist and hips are both down, but fortunately the glutes are staying strong!
Progress photos don’t look all the different, however I did feel leaner over the weekend so I know that progress visually has been made. Sometimes I’m just not very good at catching it on camera! I am rubbish at taken selfies!
Today marks 6 weeks and one day until I board that aeroplane to Thailand where I will be spending the Christmas and New Year period with my family. This will be the fourth year that we as a family have done a similar trip at this time of year; I always get asked whether it’s weird spending Christmas abroad in the sunshine. Personally…I couldn’t think of anything better! I love escaping the cold bleak weather of the UK at this time of year and recharging my batteries with some much needed vitamin D. I am incredibly lucky. This year we have decided to spend the full duration of our trip in Thailand, however in the past we have incorporated visits to Vietnam and Malaysia. I love to travel and experience new cultures, and my bucket list of places I would like to visit is continually expanding all the time. Thailand will always hold a special place in my heart though. It is such a beautiful country, the people are so generous and the food is incredible.
